Ampleforth
Explore the beautiful grounds of Ampleforth Abbey in North Yorkshire, and its lakes, trails and woodlands.
Home to a community of Benedictine Monks since 1802, Ampleforth Abbey is a ‘must explore’ when you’re visiting North Yorkshire. Whether you’re wishing to take a tour of the Abbey, try our lovely walks or just wish to have time to reflect, you’ll be made very welcome.
The first Abbey Church was built in the 19th Century. It was demolished to make way for the completion of the new Church, beginning in 1924 with the building of the Choir. The Abbey was finished and consecrated in 1961.
Our Visitor Centre tells the Ampleforth story and details the day-to-day life of the Monastic community, featuring display panels, audio items and film, and an interactive quiz. The ‘mouse hunt’ will entertain our younger visitors.
Why not refuel and refresh in our excellent licensed Tea Room and enjoy the superb delights we have to offer, with home-made cakes, scones, light meals and scrumptious afternoon teas?
The Abbey shop beholds many a treat. Not just books and cards, but our award winning Monastic produce – Ampleforth Cider, beer, liqueur and even Cider Brandy.
We’re located 3 miles from the A170 Thirsk to Scarborough Road and we’re only 5 miles from Helmsley.
