Beck Isle Museum

Pickering

Visit Pickering’s award winning treasure House of Ryedale – the Beck Isle Museum, located in the heart of Pickering in the North York Moors.

Take a trip down Memory Lane to the Beck Isle Museum in the Market Town of Pickering, close to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and learn about Ryedale's ‘hidden gem’. The Museum has two different activity trails around the Museum which is sure to keep the children entertained and helps them learn about history too!

In some areas of the Museum there are hands-on exhibits, allowing object handling to give the visitor a real feel for history. With 27 themed rooms and courtyards there’s a diverse range of things to explore. Each room reflects the customs and every-day lives of the people of Pickering and Ryedale, spanning over the last 200 years.

Visit the Print Room and take in the sounds and smells of a bye-gone age and watch the sparks fly! The letterpress printing equipment is over 160 years old and the star icon is the antique Columbian Press, which was once used by a local print firm and is still in operation today at the Museum. There’s a large Agricultural Heritage section to explore too. A huge variety of farming implements are outside the Blacksmith’s Shop. Skilled volunteers have restored these aged items back to their original state, and some were horse-drawn.
