The BBC’s long running political debate programme, Any Questions, comes to Easingwold’s Galtres Centre on Friday 20 May. Eddie Mair will be in the chair and his guests are:
Daily Telegraph columnist, Peter Oborne
Peter is a regular columnist for the Daily Telegraph and author of several books – including ones on the cricketer Basil D’Oliveira and Tony Blair’s ex-spin doctor Alastair Campbell. He describes himself as “a regular Anglican church-goer”.
Media businesswoman, Julia Hobsbawm
Daughter of Eric Hobsbawm, the Marxist historian, Julia is the chief executive of Hobsbawm Media and Marketing and a visiting professor at the London College of Communication.
Shadow Secretary of State for Culture, Ivan Lewis
Ivan was first elected as one of Tony Blair’s landslide MPs in 1997 for the Bury South constituency. Before becoming an MP he was Chief Executive of the Manchester Jewish Federation. He is a keen Manchester City supporter so will, no doubt, be pleased with their recent FA Cup triumph.
Minister for International Development, Alan Duncan
Alan will forever be known as the first openly gay Conservative MP – indeed, he proudly records this on his website. He came out of a very different shell when he left the oil industry – working for Royal Dutch Shell in 1981 – before standing as an MP in 1987. He was unsuccessful, but was elected in 1992 to the safe Conservative constituency of Rutland & Melton.
Tickets are available free of charge from the Galtres Centre, though numbers are limited (the auditorium has a capacity of only 250) so if you are interested contact the Galtres Centre as soon as possible. If you are able to get a ticket, have a topical question or two in mind, as you’ll have the opportunity to submit them for the Chairman’s consideration.
