Yorkshire beaches have received awards from Keep Britain Tidy for being amongst the best in the world.
While it’s not exactly a secret that the Yorkshire coast has some of the best beaches in the country, it’s rather nice when this is officially recognised by the bestowal of either a Blue Flag or a Quality Coast Award. In fact, the Blue Flag award is an international scheme which sets very stringent criteria for safety, water quality, the provision of services, environmental education and information, and general environmental standards of management.
In the UK the Blue Flag scheme is administered by Keep Britain Tidy. Five of Yorkshire’s premier resorts have been awarded Blue Flags this year.

In addition to the five Blue Flag beaches a further 15 Yorkshire beaches have been awarded Quality Coast Awards by Keep Britain Tidy. To be awarded a QCA a beach must be clean, attractive and meet the highest criteria of beach management. Bathing beaches must also meet the highest standards of water quality.

Another big advantage of our Yorkshire beaches is that we get more sunshine and less rain than the west coast of the UK. So there’s another great reason for having a beach holiday in Yorkshire!
