The signs are good! In spite of the tough economic climate, some business areas are performing well, and tourism in Yorkshire appears to be one of the successes.

Whilst many household budgets are being squeezed, it seems that more people are looking for quality destinations closer to home. And as we all know, there’s nowhere quite like Yorkshire for that special break or holiday.

Many tourism businesses across Yorkshire have reported a bumper April, helped by some terrific weather, a late Easter and of course the extra long weekend for the Royal Wedding.

And as the signs are positive, we should all ensure we’re well-positioned to attract as much business as possible over the coming months. Here’re some ideas which may help:

• answer email enquiries efficiently – many visitors looking for accommodation for example will email a number of businesses for availability – the ones who respond promptly will clinch the deal

• review adverts on websites and in publications, ensuring they are up to date and show off your business in the best light possible

• update your website regularly and give it a fresh design if needed

Yorkshire Dales app unveiled

Apps for smartphones are becoming very popular, and the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority (YDNPA) has just revealed its very own iPhone app.

Hoping to entice a new generation of visitors to the area, the app allows users to use GPS to explore the area whilst reading interesting snippets of information about the history, archaeology, landscape and wildlife of the area.

YDNPA’s new app could prove to be another great marketing boost for the area.
