James Keelaghan
Those very nice people at the Badapple Theatre Company are producing a series of “Concerts on your Doorstep”, bringing music to the places that other promoters rarely reach.
The series kicks off in Green Hammerton on Sunday 6 November with Canadian singer-songwriter James Keelaghan. He may not be well known in the UK (yet) but back home he has built up a substantial following with his songs about Canada and has won the country’s prestigious Juno Award (the equivalent of a Grammy) and has had a further four nominations. Other Juno recipients include Neil Young, Leonard Cohen, Alanis Morissette, Justin Bieber, k.d. lang, Arcade Fire, and Joni Mitchell, so you can see that he’s in very good company.
James’ voice is described as a tuneful and lilting baritone, and he accompanies himself with laid-back guitar. Between songs he’ll recount some of his amazing stories about his time on the road and the people he met whilst gigging around the world.
The award-winning music critic Dave Marsh described James Keelaghan as “Canada’s finest songwriter”. That’s high praise indeed when you look at the wealth of songwriting talent that Canada has produced over the years.
James has only got a handful of gigs in this country (others include Edinburgh, Birmingham, Sheffield and Coventry) so grab this one chance to see him in North Yorkshire if you can.
James is appearing on Sunday 6 November 2011 at 7.30pm at Green Hammerton Village Hall, Harrogate Road, Green Hammerton, York YO26 8EA.
Tickets: adults £8.50, child £5
