I suspect not. But if you’re looking for a thrill of the most chilling variety perhaps you should check out one of these weird and wonderful Halloween events, hosted by some of Yorkshire’s favourite visitor attractions….
1. Ryedale Folk Museum Halloween Party – Thurs 31 Oct, 6-8pm. See the museum by moonlight and take part in the family fun and fright night! There will be fun activities, pumpkin competitions and fancy dress too. Tickets: £3.50 per person.

2. Castle Howard’s Spooky Wonderland of Chills and Thrills – Weds 30 Oct from 4.30pm. Spine-chilling stories, statues rising out of the mist, a headless horseman with flame-bearing guards, magic mirrors, terror face painters and The ‘Horses of Halloween’ grand finale… what more could you want on Halloween? Prizes for best carved pumpkin and most ghoulish costume. Tickets are £15 for adults, £10 for concessions and under 5s go free. Tasty Halloween treats available throughout the evening.

3. “Frightwater Valley” – Thurs 31 Oct to Sat 2 Nov, 10am to 6:30pm. Come and be terrified by the supernatural goings-on and spooky happenings taking place across the park. Be perplexed by devilishly dark illusions, elude the park’s ghoulish residents and listen out for the cackling of witches at the trick or treat door. There’s lots to see and do for all the family. Standard entry rates apply. SAVE over 30% if you book online at least 1 day before your visit.

4. North Yorkshire Moors Railway Witches and Wizards Week – Sat 26 Oct – Sun 3 Nov. This October half term take part in our pumpkin trail. Discover the missing parts to the potion at each station and be in with the chance of winning one of 5 family tickets to come back to the railway in 2014. On 31 Oct you can purchase a Pickering to Grosmont family day rover (2 adults and up to 4 children) for £39 and enjoy the many activities awaiting you at the stations along the way.

5. Spooktacular Week at Ripley Castle – Mon 28 Oct to Fri 1 Nov 2013. Come along and enjoy ghost stories in Ripley Castle and a spooky picture trail in the woods. Experience eerie happenings in the Garden Room Halloween Party and get involved in lots of gruesome Halloween crafts. There will be treats for kids in costume too.

6. The Great Studfold Halloween Hunt at Studfold Adventure Trail – Sat 26 Oct to Sat 2 Nov. Spooky antics complete the season at Studfold Adventure Trail. Discover the witches’ brew and complete the Studfold Halloween Spell… Win a Halloween surprise!

7. Thorp Perrow Arboretum Halloween Trail – Sat 5 Oct to Tues 5 Nov. The famous gruesome trail of delightfully gory ghosts, ghouls, and things that go bump in the night is back (not for those easily offended). Great fun for old and young alike!! And Spooky Halloween Activities & Walks – Tues 29 to Thurs 31 Oct, 11am to 4pm. A spooky witch will be lurking somewhere in the woods, just in time for Halloween… Join her for creepy monster tours with mysterious monster modelling and strange happenings…

8. Halloween at The York Dungeon – 18 Oct to 3 Nov. The York Dungeon brings together an amazing cast of theatrical actors, special effects, stages, scenes and a ride in a truly unique and exciting walkthrough experience that you see, hear, touch, smell and feel. It’s hilarious fun and it’s sometimes a bit scary. There will be pumpkins galore and two new Halloween actors to get you into the spooky spirit of things.

9. Halloween Stories & Crafts at Dales Countryside Museum – Wed 30 Oct 2pm to 6pm. Join the fun at the Dales Countryside Museum for a scary afternoon of spooky tales, and things that go bump in the night. Activities with Crafts available.

10. Things that go “bump” in the Woods at Aysgarth Falls National Park Centre – Thurs 31 Oct 11am to 3pm. Families welcome. Drop in and dare to find out what went “bump” in the woods. Please phone for further information. Children with disabilities very welcome.
11. Bolton Castle’s “Spooky Spectacular” – Mon 28 Oct to Fri 1 Nov, 10am to 5pm. Enter the witches castle if you dare. Lots of games and trails for children of all ages including wizards and witches hat making, mask making, create a potion, pumpkin skittles, spooky dancing and lots more. Normal admission charges apply (but no extra charges for children’s activities).
