Last spring ITV1 scored a stunning success when they screened a series, hosted by Ade Edmondson, about life in the Yorkshire Dales. The Dales was tremendously popular and ITV immediately commissioned a brand new series – to follow up some of the stories that Ade told us about last year and to tell new ones about other aspects of Dales life.

One of the families in the new series of The Dales that Ade revisits is that of Amanda & Clive Owen and their five children. Ade finds out how they fared on their Dales farm in the run-up to last year’s summer. Ade also catches up with Carol & Phil Mellin – a mother and son who farm near Keighley – to see how their new endeavour, a sheepdog training business, is going.

And with community choirs all the rage, Ade looks in on the Buckden Singers as they rehearse for their summer concert.

And the tables are turned on Ade as he’s interviewed by possibly England’s youngest DJ – Daisy Watkins, just ten, but a real brick in the wall of Drystone Radio. Ade goes to discover the joys and sorrows of running a stable yard when he visits Middleham.

So it’s a mix of old friends and new ones.

And Ade embarks on some fresh adventures too – a helicopter ride provides a birds-eye view of the Dales and a spot of caving gives Ade an insight as to what goes on underneath the hills and valleys as he explores part of one of the largest network of caves and potholes in the world (see our blog on the Three Counties Cave here). Ade also travels on the Settle-Carlisle line (often cited as the country’s favourite railway journey) and he fulfils a dream of boys the world over – riding on the footplate of a steam train. And Ade goes one better by doing it as it thunders over the beautiful Ribblehead viaduct (which was featured in the Harry Potter films).

Also look out for the amazing Catrigg Waterfall, prize-winning sheep and a pet show – and lots more.

The Dales screens on Monday nights at 8.00 pm on ITV1 and ITV1 HD.
