The 2014 Marsden Jazz Festival features two very special world premiers of music. Starting out on Friday 10 October and topping the headline bill is Bob Kerr’s Whoopie Band, who’ll be playing traditional jazz with a surrealist twist. Also playing are Threeway with special guest Lewis Wright.
Running on Saturday 11 October from 12.00 to 2pm, “I Have A Duck Who Can Roar” – this is a story set to music for jazz septet, is suitable for all ages and has been illustrated by Ann Gilligan and written and composed by Chris Bridges.
The Sugar Sisters will also be performing on Saturday 11 October, of whose sophisticated and amazing vocal harmonies of 1940s swing (with ukulele accompanied arrangements) have made them one of Sir Terry Wogan’s favourites (and the BBC Children in Need).
“Revolutionary Traditional” runs on Saturday 11 October at 6pm, which is inspired by early 20th Century ragtime and jazz music, organised by Simon Fell, a Dewsbury born composer, and features a sextet with trumpet, clarinet, bass clarinet, guitar drums and double bass. Sunday 12 October (final Festival day) sees the Doncaster Jazz Orchestra Alumni featuring Dennis Rollins, trombone supremo.
