The shops will be open as usual on the Friday but at 5.30 pm there’ll be a lantern parade with pipers to really get the Christmas cheer going in time for Father Christmas to arrive at 6.00 pm when the lights will be switched on. The shops will stay open late and the Thirsk Town Band will be in the Market Place playing festive tunes.

On Saturday as well as all the normal shops and the regular Saturday market, there’ll also be Christmas Fayre Food and Gifts Stalls in the Town Hall (from 9.00 am to 5.00pm), Santa’s Grotto (also in the Town Hall), a Christmas tree exhibition at St Mary’s Church, buskers in the Market Place, face painting, and lots more.

The Christmas Fayre Food and Gift stalls will reopen on Sunday in the Town Hall (9.00 am to 4.00 pm) and some of the regular shops will be open throughout the day. From 11.00 am to 5.00 pm there’ll be Christmas Crafts and Gifts stalls in The Golden Fleece Hotel in the Market Place.  Santa’s Grotto will be in the Town Hall for the kiddies, and there’ll be face painting and the Christmas tree exhibition and at 3.00 pm a balloon release in the Market Place. There’ll also be buskers in the Market Place and a Christmas Raffle. Lots of other things are planned so check out the website and the Facebook page.
