Stunning 12th Century Abbey ruin and Georgian water gardens in the beautiful North Yorkshire countryside.
Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal is a World Heritage Site set in the strikingly beautiful Skell valley and offers a great family day out. The Site comprises 800 acres with almost 900 years of history and includes some stunning architecture: the 12th Century ruins of the Abbey an Elizabethan Mansion and a rare and richly adorned Victorian High Gothic church (designed by William Burges). Visitors can also enjoy the medieval deer park, home to over 500 free-roving wild deer and one of the country's most impressive Georgian Water Gardens with fine examples of neo-classical statues. There are also remarkable follies, astounding open views and the only 12th Century Cistercian Corn Mill remaining in Britain, with an exhibition and interactive elements.
During school holidays there are free trails and craft workshops to entertain the kids, and there are acres of safe and beautiful countryside for them run free in as well as a children's play area for them to enjoy.
Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal is open daily throughout the year. You'll always something different to interest and inspire you, with family events and activities as well as guided tours to suit all visitors running year round.
