Keld Countryside & Heritage Centre

Known as Keld Resource Centre's ‘shop window’, the Keld Countryside and Heritage Centre tells the story of the village of Keld, its local people, hill farming, vernacular architecture chapel, buildings, nature, and wildlife conservation. The Centre is in the former coach room and horse stables of the Literary Institute Building. The Centre is FREE to visit and provides interpretation of the countryside, Keld’s social history and a display of artefacts. The Centre is also the base for many annual activities (including craft demonstrations) held throughout the year.

Keld Village is the crossing point of the Coast to Coast Walk and the Pennine Way long distance footpaths, so has a strong reputation for being excellent walking country, with its amazing Yorkshire Dales National Park scenery.

Nearby is the River Swale, along with 4 waterfalls close by in the limestone gorge which was carved by the Swale (East Gill Force, Kisdon Force, Wain Wath Force and Catrake Force). The Centre also arranges for many guided walks too.
