Kiplin Hall

Richmond

Welcome to Kiplin Hall, a 17th century Jacobean Hall located at Scorton near Richmond in beautiful North Yorkshire.

Owned over the centuries by the Calverts, Crowes, Carpenters and Talbots (between 1620 and 1971), historic Kiplin Hall is now furnished as Admiral Carpenter’s comfortable Victorian Home. It’s crowded with centuries of family possessions to view throughout 17 rooms open to the public and is well worth a visit.

The Hall is populated with an eclectic mix of previous owners’ furniture, portraits, paintings and personalia and many art & craft items can be viewed too, including many original paintings from the 16th to the 19th Centuries. Within the rooms open for public viewing there are no barriers or ropes, so apart from not using the furniture, it’s almost like being an invited family guest.

Lots of events and exhibitions run throughout the year too. Many personal stories are written from 300 years of conflict which are told through the “Duty Calls” Exhibition. Kiplin Hall played a very important part in times of War. The ‘Long Gallery’ provided a place of recovery for WWII 1st Batallion wounded soldiers, after being rescued from the Beaches at Dunkirk.

Take a walk in the stunningly beautiful gardens and enjoy the fabulous woodland and lakeside walks too. Take a break and treat yourself to some fabulous culinary fayre in the award-winning Tea Room and Shop.

Kiplin Hall are ‘Museums and Heritage Awards for Excellence’ winners and have won the marketing award for their “Plate Appeal – It’s a Piece of Cake!” campaign.
