York
The famous National Railway Museum in York is home to The Mallard, The Flying Scotsman and over a million rail-based objects spanning 300 years of history.
Known to be the world's greatest Railway Museum, the National Railway Museum in York has everything for a fantastic family day out, showcasing a collection of well over 1,000,000 railway connected objects and spanning over 300 years of railway history.
Lots of fantastic trains are on view including the star icon and legendary Flying Scotsman (back at the Railway Museum for completing restoration work to ensure its fitness to return to mainline operation). The famous Class Locomotive: Mallard 75 (for which Prince Charles is Patron of its events and activities) is world-wide known for setting a new steam locomotive world speed record back in 1938. The National Railway Museum is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year of Mallard’s world speed record. See the futuristic and incredible Bullet Train, the Japanese Shinkansen (the only one of its kind outside Japan).
The kids can "let off plenty of steam" in our fabulous outdoor, railway themed playground. We have a daily 'Punch & Judy' for you younger visitors and plenty of steam rides, family trails, hands-on activities and interactive story-telling too.
Why not take the Road Train which travels from just outside the Museum and heads over to York Minster and enjoy the sights of this wonderful historic City en route?
