Thornton Lodge B&B

Situated above the River Ure in the beautiful Wensleydale countryside, this luxurious lodge offers 5* Yorkshire bed and breakfast accommodation. The lodge was built in 1909 as a summer home for the very wealthy Tunstill family, who spared no expense in making the lodge a grand property for entertaining. Their efforts are still visible today, with ceilings around 14 ft in height, and each sash window being over 6ft high.

We have 9 bedrooms which are all individually styled in keeping with the Edwardian era. The furniture is a mixture of antique and modern, with period wardrobes and dressing tables and new sofas. As well as our standard rooms we have a family suite, a wheelchair accessible room and two four poster rooms.

Thornton Lodge boasts a lovely guest lounge with a stunning fireplace making a perfect place in which to meet and mix with other guests, the lounge leads through to a light and airy sun lounge where guests are welcome to relax and watch the wildlife in the garden.

Breakfast is served in our elegant oak-panelled dining room. We offer juices, fresh fruit, cereals, yoghurts, fish dishes (with prior notice) and our hearty cooked Yorkshire breakfast. We are also very happy to provide an evening meal for you, if booked in advanced or if you prefer we can recommend some delightful local eateries.

Thornton Lodge is open for bed and breakfast during the summer season and from October to March it is available for exclusive hire. Guests are welcome to hire out the lodge for any special occasion, whether it is for a party or celebration or perhaps something a little different from a Casino night to Murder Mystery evening.

Thornton Lodge is the perfect place to stay and explore the surrounding area, only a couple of miles from the beautiful villages of Bainbridge and Askrigg – with its cobbled streets and splendid rural charm it is also famous for the location shoot of ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ and is definitely worth a visit. Slightly further afield there is the bustling market town of Hawes home to a traditional rope makers, creamery and museums and only 11 miles away there is the vibrant town of Leyburn with its delightful shops, cafes and eateries all just waiting to be discovered.
