Bedale

For an exciting family day out, Thorp Perrow Arboretum offers you 100 acres of beautiful woodland walks, trails and glades to explore, and holds one of the finest tree collections in the North of England. More to see with our Birds of Prey Centre, Meerkat Island and Wallaby Wood.

Located near the historic town of Bedale, Thorp Perrow Arboretum is unique and is known to have one of the finest collections of trees and shrubs in the country. Created by one man, Colonel Sir Leonard Ropner (1895-1977) the Arboretum is still family owned and managed by his son, Sir John Ropner Bt.

At the Bird of Prey and Captive Breeding Centre learn about our birds of prey and associated wildlife. See owls and falcons born through our successful breeding programme during spring. Witness the breathtaking ability of our eagles, owls, hawks, vultures and falcons at our flying demonstrations - held twice daily (weather permitting).

Visitor our NEW Mammal Centre which includes Meerkat Island and Walk Through Wallaby Wood. Visit 'Animal Encounters' each day at 11.30am and meet some of our collection.
