Pickering
A lovely 4-star Pickering B&B in a converted water mill, which has retained many original features
From £35.00
per person per night
Situated 5 minutes' walk from Pickering town centre, Vivers Mill's site has been home to a water mill since construction began as early as 1198. Throughout the Middle Ages it was used to mill paper, later to become a flour mill, which produced flour until 1970. The Ryedale Farmers, owners of the mill at this time, went bankrupt, and the mill became derelict.
Now the Water Mill is a lovely Yorkshire bed and breakfast which has been carefully restored in order that the character of the building has not been lost. Many of its original features are also still in place, with beautiful exposed beams and stonework, and even the huge cast iron undershot wheel which drives a shaft through the building, from the ground floor to the attic.
