Wensleydale Railway

Leeming Bar

Enjoy an exhilarating journey in 1960s heritage diesel railcars offering beautiful views of the Yorkshire Dales countryside.

Step aboard for a great value family day out on the Wensleydale Railway in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.

A remarkable survivor, in 1954 this Railway lost its passenger services and almost half of its route mileage by early 1960s. It survived until 1992, carrying limestone to Teesside smelters and then took on small MOD military transport jobs which kept it running until the Wensleydale Railway Association formed a company, built support and took on a 100 year lease on the 22 miles of track from Northallerton to Redmire. Future plans include extending the line from Redmire to Castle Bolton, Aysgarth, then Hawes and eventually on to Garsdale (on the Settle-Carlisle Railway).

Along the route there are plenty of places to visit and things to stop off for and do. Why not leave the car at Leeming Bar Station and explore Wensleydale by train? Many visitor attractions are within walking distance of our Stations, or there are bus connections available. Some of these include the Hawes Ropemakers, Wensleydale Creamery Visitor Centre, Gayle Mill and the Dales Countryside Museum (all in Hawes) and Bolton Castle and Aysgarth Falls near Leyburn.
