No 23 Kirkgate, Thirsk was the world’s most famous Vet, James Herriot’s original home as well as being his place of work. The living quarters and Veterinary Surgery have been recreated to appear as it was back in the 1940s. Whatever the weather, this promises to be a day full of fun for all the family – and it’s highly educational too!
See TV sets from ‘All Creatures Great and Small’, explore the children’s interactive gallery and enjoy three rooms dedicated to the history of veterinary medicine. The original car that James Herriot drove back in those days is on show too. The new World War II Air Raid Shelter offers you the experience of imagining what it must have been like to have had to hide away in hopeful safety during the air raids.
