linking visitors with places to stay since 2008

Filey lies approximately midway between Scarborough and Bridlington on the beautiful Yorkshire coast.

As well as all the usual seaside activities - and these include surfing, sub-aqua, sailing and sea-fishing - there are many other things to see and do in and around Filey.

Filey has a long and illustrious maritime history and this is celebrated by the Filey Museum (which has won two prestigious awards in recent years). A visit to the museum takes you back through Filey's history via displays, photographs, books and newspapers.

There are lots of serious walks which start at Filey (and if you're not a serious walker, you don't have to do the whole length). The town is at the eastern end of the Cleveland Way - a 107-mile walking route running in a large open loop from Helmsley to Filey. It's also the end point of the Great Yorkshire Bike Ride cycle route (57.31 miles starting at Wetherby).

For a more sedate approach to the outdoors, there's the Crescent Gardens, which has a programme of summer concerts in its bandstand, or the Country Park - with fine views out across Filey Bay.

If you walk along the sands, do watch out for fossils - the skeleton of sea-dwelling plesiosaurs was discovered as recently as 2001 and many other fossils have been found along this stretch of the Jurassic Coast.

Filey has a beach which is five-miles long and just to the south of Filey lies Filey Brigg - a rocky outcrop which protects the beach and is a haven for a rich variety of wild-life. In fact it is so important to the local ecology that it has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

Filey is not far north of Bempton Cliffs which are home to an RSPB reserve. Here (depending on the season) you can see puffins, gannets, kittiwakes, short-eared owls, and flocks of tree sparrows.

Interesting fact: Filey is the place to go if you want to make your wishes come true as it has two wishing wells in the Crescent Gardens.
