Malton is a charming market town approximately 19 miles north-east of York, and about halfway between York and Scarborough. It holds a weekly market on Saturdays and a monthly farmers market. It also has some very interesting and rather quaint shops - including a very old-fashioned sweetshop, where the sweets our parents and grandparents used to buy are sold loose.
Malton is on the southern edge of the North York Moors, and it's the ideal base for day trips to the Moors, the coast and the magnificent City of York.
Malton Priory Church incorporates the remains of a rare Gilbertine priory, and the Malton Museum is an archaeological museum with many of the Roman artefacts which have been discovered locally.
Interesting fact: Charles Dickens was a frequent visitor to Malton and wrote A Christmas Carol whilst staying in the town.
