Hawes lies in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and is surrounded by stunning scenery. It is a walkers' paradise at the heart of Wensleydale, and is on the Pennine Way.
The River Ure runs through the town on its way through the dale to Aysgarth Falls, Middleham Castle and Jervaulx Abbey - each of which is a stunning attraction in its own right. Indeed the magnificent Aysgarth Falls have been described as one of the natural wonders of the north.

Hawes is one of the geographically highest market towns in England its weekly market is held every Tuesday. It has numerous craft and gift shops and outdoor clothing stores, and is home to the award-winning Dales Countryside Museum sited in the old railway station. The recently reopened Wensleydale Railway is planning to restore the stretch of tracks between Redmire and Garside, and when this happens it will allow travellers to board and alight at Hawes.
Hawes has a very different claim to fame as it is the home of Wensleydale Cheese - a gastronomic delight that has found new popularity since it was mentioned in Nick Park's animated films of Wallace & Gromit, and visitors can learn about the fascinating history of the cheese at the Wensleydale Creamery Visitor Centre.
Other local highlights include the Hawes Ropemakers, where visitors can watch ropes being made by skilled craftsmen in the same way that they have been made for centuries, a plethora of other craft workshops, bijou shops, and plenty of cafés and tea-rooms.
