Leyburn is a pretty market town in Wensleydale on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
The area is prime walking country, and can be reached by road or by rail, now that the Wensleydale Railway has reopened a line connecting the town with Bedale and Leeming Bar.
This is one of the most sparsely populated parts of England so there's plenty of opportunity to get away from everything and enjoy peace and solitude. But there's also loads to see and do if you want a more gregarious holiday. Leyburn has its own independent cinema, a wide range of different craft workshops, an unusual tea pottery, art and photographic galleries and an auction house which specialises in superb fine arts and antiques.
And don't miss the weekly market, held every Friday and sure to be busy.
